Colony Features & Bugs

In order to accommodate future features and functionality coming to Colony, we will be doing a UI/UX overhaul of the entire app. It will also improve consistent design across Colonies branding, landing page, and DApp. The refresh will incorporate design best practices to ensure familiar experience and ease of use for our users. Including familiar elements, improved consistency, feedback and alternate states for all interactions, more easily accessible actions, and improved flow throughout the app.

"Work" enables Colonies to define, organise, and reward work that needs to be done in order for the DAO to achieve it's objectives. "Work" should allow autonomy for contributors to get involved efficiently. Tasks will likely be one of the first places contributors visit to determine if there is a place for them in a DAO, or if there are ways for them to get involved. It will also be a place where followers will be able to see the DAOs progress. So, it should also provide an overview of what is getting done, such as showing stats on what is in progress, has been completed, outstanding, total paid out, etc. “Work” is made up of 4 different types; Objectives, Projects, Tasks, and Roles. There is also a component of work accountability with the “Work Status” component. Creating a full process for getting work done with recruiting, accountability, task completion and team transparency tool for DAOs.

It is currently quite a manual process to remember to have to follow up on a Colony you are contributing to, keep track of motions created and stakes that a ready to be claimed. It should be possible for members to be able to receive notifications based on activities happening within the colonies they are apart of or are following.

Onboarding into Colony and DAOs in general needs to be improved. There is too much expectation on the user to understand the concepts and nomenclature of Web3. Also, with the current Colony creation process, users are left with a empty DAO and no clear instructions as to what the next steps are. Therefore, we are revising the Colony creation and onboarding process, to provide a more informed and clear process as well as aim to have a more complete and setup DAO at the end of the process. We will also provide recommendations on good next steps once a DAO has been created.

The idea of Decisions & Discussions is to help organisations make decisions. They can be simple decisions that people need to make everyday, to more complicated decisions that require collective input and discussion beforehand. If they are "simple" they can go through a simple decisions process, where the decision is proposed and people can stake for or against using lazy consensus. If it is "big" then it can be created as a Discussion. If a simple decisions requires more discussion it could also be escalated to a Discussion.

With many user wallet options available these days, it is important to allow users to be able to use their preferred wallet to connect to and use Colony with. We want to add more wallet connection options to the Colony app.

It has become clear that many prospective users really like Colony’s ideas, but our being only on Gnosis Chain is a deal killer. In order to meet the needs of our prospective users, Colony needs to be deployed to and usable on multiple chains.

The aim of the finances dashboard is to help with decision making and provide better transparency and convenience to the DAO, it’s contributors, and greater community. It will show total balances and financial performance of the colony currently and over time, incorporating balances from multiple chains. It will show a breakdown of transfers and balances in, out, and around the organization. It will provide quick access to perform financial related actions, such as adding funds, moving funds, transfers, payments, expenditures, tokenomics (e.g. issuance and burning) (including the impact), minting tokens (including the impact), reward distribution, etc. It will also include the tokenomics of the colony's native token.

This feature allows for a greater decentralized treasury management by allowing a Safe (formerly Gnosis Safe) to be controlled using a Colony's governance. Your DAO can now initiate token transfers and contract interactions in your Safe using the Motions process.
